Hi, this is Shelley Treacher from Underground Confidence, giving you a very small bite podcast on boredom. One of the things that people say to me quite often is that they eat because they're bored. This was particularly common during COVID. But what I want to talk about is that there's a lot more behind boredom than meets the eye. So what I'd like to encourage you to understand and to think about today is what exactly you're bored with. Is it your own company that you're bored with? Surely not. Surely you're the most fascinating creature on the planet. So then you see how we start to get into it a bit more deeply. How come your company is not that fascinating? How come everybody else's company would be much more interesting than yours? And what could you get to know about yourself that might make you start thinking a little bit more positively about spending time with you? I know that boredom can mask a hell of a lot of different feelings. For me, it often masks feeling inadequate. So if I'm in a situation where I'm thinking, oh I'm so bored, I now start to think, okay, what is that? What is it that I think I can't handle or can't do? And that helps me to manage it and often actually points out that I can do it. Which I would have missed if I'd just ate something. It's just a pattern of thought for me, which so many things are. And that's another thing I want to be teaching you here, really. So what's behind your boredom? Is it anger? Is it nervousness? Is it another feeling that you really just don't want to feel and don't want to think about and think you can't cope with? Thank you for checking in with me today. I'll see you on Wednesday. This is Shelly Treacher from Underground Confidence.
